bohlin-CS - Short description
The bohlin-CS rheometer is a stress-controlled instrument; it is not capable of performing strain-controlled measurements. In our lab this machine is mounted on a stand that allows for imaging samples from below, using a CCD camera. This can be very useful to monitor the shear induced development of structure in soft materials.
- Uses same geometries as HR-nano and bohlin C-VOR
- Additional transparent (Plexi-glass) tools
- Imaging of samples during shear
Things to remember
- The instrument does not have an automatic gap setting feature
Set the gap using the micrometer ring at the top of the instrument:
- Change gap setting
- Put tool in rotation
- Lower tool to see if gap is too high or too low
- back to step
Using the bohlin-CS
- Get training
- If anything unusual happens during use, please ask one of the people responsible for the rheometers. If the main air pressure drops below 70 psi, stop all measurements, do not touch the tools and contact one of the following emergency contacts:
- Harvard facilities office: (617) 495-2840
- Harvard Police (during the night): (617) 495-1212
Measuring Geometries
All Plate/Plate and Cone/Plate tools from the malvern HR-nano and bohlin C-VOR rheometer can be used. In addition, there is a Plexi-glass Plate tool that allows for imaging in transmission.
