Lab Safety

We take safety very seriously here at Harvard.  All new members are required to complete general Harvard Environmental Health & Safety training courses at the Harvard Training Portal as well as a lab-specific orientation guided by the group safety officers Anqi Chen & Hong LI.

Please complete all required safety training as soon as possible and read over the Weitz lab safety document.

Assigned room monitors oversee day-to-day activity for their designated rooms, and in particular they oversee supply stocking and removal of waste during clean up. They are as follows:

  • Rheo: Benjamin Thorne
  • Optics: Seongsoo Kim
  • Confocal: Zizhao (Will) Wang
  • Bio (Cell Culture Room): Qiaoling Huang, John Heyman
  • Bacteria Room: Kayla Keepseagle
  • Chem:  Wentao Xu and Kevin Jahnke
  • Microfluidics:  Yang Wang and Rohan Thakur

Professor Weitz, and his research group have been nominated for a Green Carpet Award in 2011 for their dedication to sustainable practices in the laboratory.

The Weitz Laboratory project is a 4,071 square foot and expansion of existing research space to accommodate the merging of two smaller lab groups into one. The project boundary is limited to the east wing of the fifth floor of the McKay Building. The renovation is also an opportunity to reconfigure spaces to best meet programmatic requirements for the researchers, update finishes and furnishings, and increase the efficiency and quality of the fifth floor lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning controls.
